The Library in the Museum of Gothenburg is a scientific special library with c.100 000 volumes. You can find above all literature about the city of Gothenburg and the museum's topics archeology, cultural history, theater and performing arts, industrial history, military history, school history and the East India Company. The library soon outgrew its premises and in 1897 it moved to a new building on Södra Allégatan. This was the first specific library building in the whole of Scandinavia. More than sixty years later the Dicksonska library also became too cramped, and the Göteborg public library moved into newly-built premises on Götaplatsen, a prime city location. Visit the library only if you must, for example to pick up or return books.
